SR Pro Known Problems

Here's a small list of bugs that I already know about. Some are fixed.

Status Bug Description
Fixed in 0.92 Serious problem causes the scheduler to generally fail completely. It was caused by an external timekeeping component being altered recently.
Pending problem. Avoid using this compressor in VOX mode until a fix is posted here. If using VOX mode and MS ADPCM compression, the output .WAV file could have missing or unplayable audio after the 1st VOX event.

This problem seems to be only while using the MS ADPCM compressor. Using the IMA ADPCM compressor shows no sign of this problem. Nor do other compressor CODECs that I tried.

Problem is related to the above CODEC problems.

A small amount of silence is clipped at the end of a file if VOX splitter mode and compression are used. This only occurs while using the built-in Mpeg Layer 3 compressor that comes with Windows XP. I only have XP set up right now so I can't verify if this problem happens on other systems.

I only saw this problem while using the built in Mpeg Layer 3 compressor that comes with my Windows XP system.

I suspect that the missing clip is also at the tail-end of every VOX event, even if the entire recording is in one file. In other words: the file splitter has nothing to do with the problem. But if VOX-Splitter Mode *is* used, then one can verify that the proper amount of quiet audio is at the tail end of each file. The amount of quiet audio should equal the amount of VOX HOLD (hang) time you used for the recording. If you have a tool like Sound Forge, you can measure how much quiet time is on the end of each event.

Open problem.

Player has small amount of drift if long files are recorded and/or high data rates are used.

This is a design problem and requires future work on the player.

Recommendations:

  • Use low data rates for the recording. I use 8000 16-bits mono for police scanner type voice and it is very clear.
  • Use a compressor that has less drift. (I use GSM and feel that this codec is adequate for avoiding drift).
  • Recording using a large amount of VOX hang time. At least 1000ms. 2000ms results is good spacing after each event ends.
