Scanner Recorder Pro

It's not freeware. The intention is to sell it as shareware. if I ever finish it. But I only work on it on weekends and so it might be a while before this software is 'finished'. I still have some little issues that might make it better, before I try to sell it. I have things that need to be added to the settings panels and there's more UI (user interface) work that needs to be done. Just lots of little things and some major improvements are coming too, like VOX synchronized file splitting. I worked on it a lot (ok, not a lot but a long time :-) and I need the money to help pay for gas and keep the web site online. So I've set up a way to download it automatically after you make a Paypal donation. The donations help me pay for my web site, email and stuff like that. They also give me some the incentive to put more work into this project and provide updates to people.

This recorder and player are written using Visual C++. The motivation for writing this recorder was that I felt it was time to upgrade Scanner Recorder. But SR is not easy to add features to. Just not very well designed. Modifying SR is tough because SR was thrown together as one of my first Windows programs. But.... The SR Pro's internal architecture is something I'm proud of. I have an object oriented design now and the recorder consists of many small parts all working in unison. The bulk of the recorder is the modular filter I call an "Audio Filter". It is used throughout the recorder audio chain to handle all the audio processing operations, from capturing to writing to the output file. By using this type of programming language, I can build onto this design in a similar way that an amateur radio operator adds boxes to their setup. Anyway the bottom line is is that SR Pro is upgradeable and a much better design than Scanner Recorder.

Status:

SR Pro is being actively developed. It is very stable now. There is still no help files yet, but the buttons and fields all have "tooltip" help when you move the cursor over a button or area on the panels.

SR Pro vs. Scanner Recorder freeware

If you make an online donation, you can have a full featured version of SR Pro (and player) without any time limits and also receive updates.

System Requirements:

Note Regarding Split-Channel Recording:

Split-channel recording mode is what I call it when one wants to record the left channel into one file and the right channel into another file. SR Pro supports this mode by allowing the user to load two instances of SR Pro and share the same stereo input from the two programs. But... If you use more than one instance of the recorder at the same time, some of the older systems might not allow multiple recorder access to the same input device. I think the older operating systems had a one-program-per-adapter restriction, IIRC. If that's the case, then it won't be possible to use split-channel recording mode (which requires two instances of SR Pro sharing the same audio input).

The good news is that Windows XP allows multiple recorders to share the same input without any restrictions. I don't have Vista, but I assume that Vista also allows input sharing.
